"You're traveling through another dimension - a dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land of imagination. Next stop, the Twilight Zone!"
Fifth grade students across the Binghamton City School Districts have likely heard those words several times in class recently -- it's the intro to the Rod Serling-created classic television series The Twilight Zone. On April 4, all those students got a sizable dose of Rod Serling at Binghamton High School, where he graduated many, many moons ago.
Gathering in Helen Foley Theatre, the students were welcomed by Superintendent Dr. Tonia Thompson and Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham, who officially declared the day "Rod Serling Day" in the city.
Next, Rod Serling's daughter, Anne Serling, spoke to all the students about her father and his love for Binghamton -- detailing how he would always love to return home. The event concluded with a series of readings of fictional work created by the students in their classes, as well as a reading of the Twilight Zone episode "Walking Distance" by Southern Tier Actors Read (STAR)
